"In the next decade, I hope to become more radical."

Nice article in the Guardian claiming: "The left is the main hope against xenophobic, securitised, apocalyptic barbarism. We should expect radical change"

Costas Douzinas starts by attempting to define the neo liberal project of the last twenty years; the notions of "Globalisation, neoliberal economics and humanitarian cosmopolitanism" These were he says, the "contours of the new age. As Economic interdependence, global communications, free trade, population and capital flows were bringing the world together, undermining the omnipotence of sovereignty and nation-state. A global civil society of multinational corporations, as well as international and non-governmental organisations, were to create the transnational solidarities necessary to protect against global risks."

But it doesnt take long before Douzinas disarms us of this naivety. "This was the great utopia at the end of the 20th century, a liberal fantasy as comprehensive as anything Christianity or Marxism had ever imagined"

A Thought provoking and inspiring article. It's time to get radical. Link to the article below. C

The broken system

Professor Lawrence Lessig has known Barak Obama for more than twenty years and been a supporter of all his campaigns. In this video, produced for The Nation and FixCongressFirst.org, Lessig outlines his concerns over President Obama's limited approach to truly "changing Washington", and his view that Congress is a deeply broken institution in dire need of reform. For the full in depth analysis, read the original article here - http://www.thenation.com/doc/20100222/lessig.

Noam Chomsky on Education

A rather better analysis of the American education system than my previous post.

Watch out watch out.. Fox news is about...

According to this recent gem from "Fox and Friends" resident hack - Tucker Carlson. Having an education is "likely to skew your political views" and turn you into a liberal.

But all is not lost - frightened conservative students out there. The argument offered in this clip is fucking absurd. The host asks Tucker for the evidence, albeit following the insipid "I agree with whatever comes out of my panellists mouth as long as its fits the chosen narrative"  Fox News interview technique. Tucker's laboured response to this simple question deliberately trys to confuse two distinct issues.

On the one hand he says, "alot of college kids don't know even basic civics". Fine, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the assertion that education makes you liberal. Later he says "then you ask them about their social values and the study shows they become more liberal after four years in college -We know that."

He doesnt at any point actually offer us the evidence for this and admits himself he doesnt know anything about the methodology of the study. I bet a quid this is on the Daily Show on monday.

Oh and enjoy the pre-clip advertizment as well (if it remains the same), it really takes anthropomorphism for the purpose of banal product endorsments to a whole new level..
